Mouthguards limit the risk of mouth-related injuries to the lips or tongue.
They also help to avoid chipped or broken teeth, nerve damage or even the loss of a tooth. A mouthguard is a covering worn over the teeth for protection from injury during sports.
Protect your children’s perfect smile
At DentaGlow, we recommend a mouthguard for children and adults participating in any contact sports such as soccer, rugby, hockey or any sports which pose a risk to the mouth. Mouth guards are made here in surgery from an impression which is taken of the upper teeth. The mouth guard is custom made which means more comfort and a better fit.
We also have orthodontic mouthguards which protect the upper and lower teeth for anyone having orthodontic treatment such as braces.
NB: If a tooth is knocked out during sport or from a fall, you should:
- Try to place the tooth back into the socket right away. If this is not possible –
- Place the tooth inside the mouth/cheek (be very careful not to swallow it) or if this is not possible
- Immerse the tooth in milk, or if none is available use saliva. Do not use water.
- In all cases, see a dentist within 30 minutes.
